UNHCR & EU Echo – South Sudan

When the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) needed to highlight the impact of their EU-funded initiatives in South Sudan, they turned to Beyond Borders Media (BBM) to bring their work to life.
The goal? To create a compelling online campaign that demonstrated how funding was being used to support refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
BBM partnered with UNHCR to produce three short online videos, each available in five languages (Dutch, German, Polish, French, and English).
These videos would serve as powerful storytelling tools, showcasing the realities on the ground and the effectiveness of UNHCR’s initiatives.
Our challenge was to craft engaging content that clearly illustrated the importance of these programs, despite the complexity of the environment and the lack of initial creative direction.


South Sudan faces one of the most pressing humanitarian crises in the world, with over 9.4 million people in need of assistance and 2.3 million refugees in neighboring countries. UNHCR, in partnership with the EU, has been instrumental in helping people return home safely, providing shelter, food security, and protection for the most vulnerable.



BBM worked closely with UNHCR to capture authentic and impactful stories that highlighted the resilience of displaced communities and the tangible outcomes of UNHCR’s work.
With a lean and agile approach, BBM handled the entire process – from filming in refugee camps and IDP settlements to post-production and editing – crafting a visual story that resonated with international audiences.
We worked under tight constraints to deliver professional, emotionally compelling videos that highlighted the human side of the crisis.
We created three different formats for each video: 16×9, 9×16, and 1×1.

The videos played a crucial role in helping the UNHCR and the EU communicate transparency and accountability, showing exactly how humanitarian funds were making a difference.
By amplifying the voices of those affected, BBM contributed to a campaign that not only informed but also inspired action.
Despite the logistical and creative challenges, our team successfully delivered high-quality content that aligned with UNHCR’s mission – helping the world see the importance of continued humanitarian support in South Sudan.
